Notre Dame has agreed to sign guard Justin Thompson in 2019, the school announced Tuesday.
Thompson, a 6-foot-10 forward from Dallas, Texas, is ranked as the No. 4-rated prospect in the class of 2019 by ESPN.
Thompson has played in only one season at Notre Dame, averaging 6.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game during his two years at the school.
The 20-year-old is the No and No. 7 players in the 2019 class and the No 10 prospect in Texas.
He is rated the No 2 prospect in his class by ESPN, and No 8 by 247Sports.
“We’re excited to add Justin to our recruiting class,” said head coach Brad Underwood.
“He is a great athlete with great length, athleticism, and a very bright future.
He will bring a very good mix of size, length, and scoring ability to our program.”
The 6-9 Thompson was an All-Big 12 selection and a first-team all-conference selection during his freshman year at Texas A&M.
He was a four-year starter at the college level for the Aggies and was an Academic All-American as a senior in 2019.
Thompson averaged 13.6 pts, 6.9 rpg and 2.9 spg per game at Texas, leading the Aggie attack in scoring and rebounding.
Thompson was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2019 and earned first-Team All-America honors as a junior in 2019 as a second-team All-SEC selection.
The 6’8 Thompson is rated as the 247Sports composite and the top rated prospect in America’s top 100 schools.
“Justin’s skills are a great fit for our program, and we’re thrilled to add him to our coaching staff,” Underwood said.
“As a player, he is a versatile, versatile forward who is extremely quick off the ball, able to get to the rim and finish.
His defensive skills are top notch as well.
He’s a player that has tremendous upside.”
Notre Dame will have to wait until 2021 for Thompson to officially sign, but it appears he will be a member of the Irish’s 2019 recruiting class when he officially announces his decision.
