For the second time in two years, Illinois basketball is in position to land a top-ranked recruit in the class of 2018, according to Rivals.
The Big Ten has a total of 23 teams, which means that Illinois is ranked second and the conference is fourth.
The Wolverines have the most teams in the Big 10, with 14.
If the Wolverines are to make it to the NCAA Tournament, they’ll need to win at least five games against a ranked team in order to have any chance of making it to conference play.
The Wolverines also have a few other things going for them.
They are currently in the process of recruiting top-rated players in two of the nation’s most populous states.
They have also been consistently recruiting top recruits in both the Big 12 and Pac-12.
The most recent example of this was with quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who was the first player in Illinois history to go pro in 2018.
The recruiting class at Illinois was ranked 12th nationally by 247Sports.
The 2017 class was ranked No. 1 by Rivals, No. 3 by Scout and No. 4 by ESPN.
Illinois also received five first-round draft picks in the 2017 class, which led the Big Six Conference and its members to send an extra draft pick to the Illini.
In 2018, the Wolverins got three second-round picks.
The 2017 class also included three-star defensive end Jake Ryan and five-star guard Darrin Reed, who transferred from Texas.
The 2018 class is ranked No, 10, 14 and 18 by Rivals.
The 2019 class has been ranked No., 16, 20 and 25 by Rivals and 247Sports, respectively.
The 2019 class also includes five-stars guard Tyler Harris and six-stars forward Kaleb Johnson.
The top-25 class was in the top 10 in each of those three categories, but the 2019 class was not ranked No.’s.
Illinois is ranked 15th nationally in 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
The Top 25 list is a combination of the most recent 247Sports Composite Rankings, which include both the 247Sports and Rivals Composite rankings, and a consensus list of five coaches and recruiting experts.
The consensus list is considered to be a more accurate reflection of the talent level of a program than any of the individual coaches.
The Big Ten is expected to have 11 teams, with two in the Top 25 and two in each other conference.
For the Big East, the conference will have seven teams.
The league is ranked 11th in 247 Sports’ Composite rankings.
The 2018 recruiting class included five- and six and seven-star guards Anthony Davis, Justin Jackson, Elijah Lee, Anthony Harris and Darrion Reed.
The four-star forward was the No. 2 recruit in Illinois and is considered the top player in the 2018 class.
The 6-foot-9 forward also went to Notre Dame and was the top recruit in his class.
The four-stars who are still in the recruiting process are guard Jordan Adams and center/forward Kaleb Jackson.
Adams, the No 1 overall recruit in 2018, is in the middle of his sophomore year at Illinois and committed to Illinois last spring.
Jackson is a five-year veteran who is ranked as high as No. 25 in 247sports.
The two-star player, the son of former Illini quarterback Darril Jackson, is expected in the next couple of days.
The recruiting class was a strong one, with six-star centers Malik Zaire and Andrew Wiggins and five four- and five one-star prospects.
Zaire is the No 4 overall recruit from Illinois in the 247sports composite rankings.
The five-and-five-star players in the group are the No 5 and No 6 overall recruits in the 2019 recruiting class, according in Rivals.
