THE O’REILLY, Ore.
(AP) It was a big game for the Oregon football program.
Freshman receiver Laquon Treadwell scored a touchdown on the Ducks first possession of the second half, giving the Ducks a 27-14 lead.
The Ducks have now won at least one game in six straight, the longest active streak in the nation.
The win was the most recent victory in a four-game winning streak for Oregon.
O’Reillys defense led the way for the Ducks.
The defense was the biggest factor in the Ducks’ 24-3 run in the first half.
Oregon’s defense allowed only 17 points to the O’Reilly, Oregon State defense.
It was the first time since 1999 that the Ducks allowed more than 200 points in a game.
The Oregon defense had allowed just 18.3 points per game since 2011.
Treadworth was able to make some big plays on the field for Oregon after coming off the bench for the first two games.
After that, he was the only offensive player in the game.
On a fourth-and-1 from Oregon’s 1-yard line, Treadwis made a diving catch that was tipped by freshman safety Nick Ochocinco.
Ochcinco was able take the ball away, but Oregon recovered the fumble and was able find Treadway.
Treading was able see the hole that Ochcodinco and sophomore defensive end Anthony Johnson had made to run in a touchdown pass.
Oregon then got the ball back on its own 12-yard-line, where Treadwyll made a great play on a corner route and found the end zone.
He ran up the middle and found his spot.
The catch was so well placed that he was able get a great jump on the pass.
After the game, Oregon coach Mark Helfrich said the play really stood out.
The touchdown was the fourth of his career and the second of his Oregon career.
OCHCINCO, O’CONNOR: He was a little bit shaky, but he’s a good kid and he’s just going to continue to improve.
He did a good job today, but there’s still a lot to do, too.
The whole defense did a great job, too, to try and hold Oregon to just 21 yards and five points in the second quarter.
The secondary also played a big part in this game.
Safety Nick Ochoa had three tackles and a sack, while safety Josh Hawkins had one tackle for loss and one pass break-up.
The other three linebackers had three solo tackles.
Hawkins also added a fumble recovery.
Oregon was just 10-of-28 passing for 113 yards, and its QB completed only six of his 22 passes for 83 yards.
The Cougars defense held the Ducks to 23 yards rushing and 10 total yards rushing, and allowed just three rushing touchdowns.
The game was a bit of a homecoming for O’Connor, who said he was a part of Oregon’s first-ever win at home over the Cougars.
Oregon is now 11-1 all-time in Eugene.
Oregon will play host to BYU on Saturday in the season opener.
